I already knew about this one, but for those of you who haven’t heard here’s an article on the demise of the University of Florida’s Documentary Institute. As I’m sure you already know, the recession is literally wreaking havoc on the independent documentary film community. Grants which were already incredibly scarce are quickly becoming non-existent. Projects are being shelved and back-burnered right and left by better film makers than me, and now a school has cut an entire well respected program out of it’s curriculum. But on the positive side, the program will go on. It’s moving up to Wake Forest University in the Fall of next year, with the majority of it’s faculty mentors intact, so I think it will be a new day and a new chapter for them as they move forward through this and I wish them all the best.
