The bus route I ride into work winds it’s way through the back hills of town, passing a lake, an elementary school and a middle school. And every morning a small group of local tweens boards the bus and takes over the back half on their way to that school. As you might imagine, they are always full of energy, enthusiasm and loud conversation which usually revolves around some mundane point like who they hate at school, how cool their phone is or how good they are at soccer.

But not this morning. This morning they were discussing news stories they heard on NPR.
