So, over the past 5 months or so, I’ve been working on a project for MOHAI’s History Is… competition. The competition challenges video makers to create short videos with the theme History Is… with the blank being there for the filmmaker’s interpretation of what history means to them.
When researching topics for the competition I came across a set of woodblocks for an old folk song, entitled “The Old Settler,” and I was intrigued. And then I found out that the song became the basis for local legend Ivar Haglund’s Acres of Clams restaurant and I was hooked.
On Friday night, I was presented with MOHAI’s History Award, for my entry, “History is Sung”. It was an honor and a filmmaking journey I won’t soon forget.
